Folded Terrain is a landscape of memory shaped through contact. Cyanotype solution is applied to Hanji (Korean mulberry paper) and parchment paper, left to dry, then freely crumpled into sculptural forms. Exposed to sunlight, time and light determine the image’s density and contrast, while washing in water reveals fragmented traces that surface through process rather than observation. Working with multiple film formats and transparency film, I invert and reassemble these fragments into a single frame where past and present, personal and spatial experience overlap. This body of work brings together my cameraless photographic practice, including cyanotypes and photograms. Formed through direct interactions between light, water, and material surfaces, these processes prioritize duration, process, and material response over optical representation. In my practice, photography functions less as depiction and more as an act of contact—where exposure, touch, and time leave physical traces. Working with Hanji and parchment paper, I approach cyanotype and photogram processes through absorption and resistance, chance and constraint. Variations in exposure, washing, and material behavior are not treated as errors but as integral components of the work. Rather than emphasizing visual composition, images emerge through physical engagement with materials. In this context, photography becomes a method for thinking through how time, memory, and embodied experience settle onto a surface—forming landscapes shaped not by looking, but by touch, sunlight, water, and time.
